Police and other emergency services in Germany are responding to reports of an active shooter in the city of Hamburg, local officials and witnesses say. There are reports of at least six dead, many injured.

The incident began at about 9 p.m. on Thursday when at least one person opened fire at a religious location, possibly a Jehovah’s Witnesses location, according to a government alert and local media.

According to local reports, six people have been confirmed dead and at least seven more are seriously injured.

It's understood the gunmen opened fire at a centre for Jehovah's Witnesses.

Cops are still hunting the suspects.
